Project overview

The Project

Canyon de Boracay is a 5-storey mixed-use commercial and hotel building on Boracay Island, Aklan — one of the Philippines’ most demanding locations to engineer for. Island projects combine resort-grade guest comfort expectations with real constraints on power, water, and drainage infrastructure.

The project called for a complete MEPF design package spanning the hotel floors and commercial spaces: guest-room air conditioning, common-area ventilation, power distribution sized for resort loads, domestic water and drainage systems, and code-compliant fire protection throughout.

MEPF scope

Scope Delivered

Mechanical

Guest room and common-area air conditioning, ventilation and exhaust systems, and equipment heat rejection designed for tropical island conditions.

Electrical

Power distribution, lighting design, panel schedules and single-line diagrams, grounding, and auxiliary systems across hotel and commercial areas.

Plumbing

Domestic water supply and distribution, sanitary and wastewater systems, and storm drainage engineered for island utility conditions.

Fire Protection

Sprinkler coverage, extinguisher layouts, and standpipe provisions to Philippine Fire Code requirements for hotel occupancy.

Engineering considerations

Challenges & Considerations

Boracay Island projects contend with constrained utility infrastructure: limited power reliability, water supply that must be managed carefully, and drainage systems under strict environmental oversight following the island’s rehabilitation. Buildings of this type require MEPF designs that build in storage, redundancy, and efficiency from day one — water storage and pumping sized for supply interruptions, electrical systems coordinated with standby generation, and drainage designed to meet the island’s tightened environmental standards.

Outcome

Value Delivered

A coordinated five-storey MEPF package supporting both hotel operations and commercial tenants — designed for guest comfort, code compliance, and resilient operation under island utility conditions.
