Project overview

The Project

The Bacolod Ferry Terminal is a 2-storey transport terminal and office building in Bacolod, Negros Occidental. Passenger terminals are among the most demanding low-rise building types: large open halls with fluctuating occupancy, continuous daily operation, and public-safety requirements that exceed typical commercial buildings.

The project required a full MEPF package for the terminal halls, passenger amenities, and office floors — ventilation and cooling for high-occupancy waiting areas, robust power and lighting for round-the-clock operations, public restroom plumbing at terminal scale, and life-safety systems designed for crowds.

MEPF scope

Scope Delivered

Mechanical

Ventilation and air conditioning for high-occupancy passenger halls, office air conditioning, and exhaust systems for amenities.

Electrical

Power distribution, terminal and exterior lighting, emergency lighting, and auxiliary provisions (CCTV, data, public address) supporting terminal operations.

Plumbing

High-demand public restroom plumbing, water storage and distribution, and site storm drainage for a waterfront location.

Fire Protection

Sprinkler and extinguisher coverage with egress-supporting life-safety provisions for assembly-type occupancy.

Engineering considerations

Challenges & Considerations

Buildings of this type require ventilation designed for peak passenger surges rather than average occupancy, emergency systems that keep a public facility safely operable during outages, and waterfront drainage that handles storm events. Coordination with port authority operations and phased construction around a working terminal are typical constraints on projects like this.

Outcome

Value Delivered

A public infrastructure MEPF package engineered for continuous operation, passenger comfort at peak loads, and the life-safety standards a transport terminal demands.
