The Project
The ISAT Research Hub is a 4-storey laboratory school located inside the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology campus in La Paz, Iloilo City. Laboratory buildings layer specialized ventilation, power, and safety requirements on top of standard institutional design.
The engagement covered the complete MEPF design for classrooms, laboratories, and support spaces — coordinated with the campus’s existing site utilities and delivered as a full permit-to-construction documentation package.
Scope Delivered
Mechanical
Classroom and laboratory air conditioning, fresh air and exhaust ventilation appropriate for laboratory activities, and plant/equipment layouts.
Electrical
Power distribution with laboratory equipment provisions, interior and emergency lighting, panel schedules and single-line diagrams, and data/CCTV/security provisions.
Plumbing
Domestic water supply, laboratory plumbing provisions, water storage and pumping, sanitary and storm drainage systems.
Fire Protection
Sprinkler design, extinguisher layouts appropriate to laboratory hazards, and fire alarm coordination.
Challenges & Considerations
Buildings of this type require laboratory exhaust designed so experiments don’t compromise indoor air quality elsewhere, electrical capacity for evolving research equipment, and life-safety design that treats students as the priority occupants. Integration with existing campus utilities — tying into established power, water, and drainage networks without disrupting the operating college — is a defining constraint of campus infill projects.
