Who is Lumitress and what was the challenge?

Lumitress is a direct-to-consumer luxury haircare brand with 8 signature products: a luxury shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, leave-in conditioner and hair oil, plus heat protection and finishing sprays. The challenge was a true zero-to-one launch with no store, no audience, no creative library and no domain authority.

Lumitress also entered a category where established luxury brands such as Olaplex, Kérastase and Oribe already held attention. A new brand had to earn trust and sales from the first campaign.

  • No e-commerce store to sell from.
  • No existing audience on social media or email.
  • No photos, videos or ad creative to launch with.
  • A brand new domain with no search rankings or backlinks.
  • Strong, well-funded competitors in luxury haircare.

Lumitress launched with nothing in place, so every channel had to be built at once and pointed at one goal: profitable orders from launch.

What results did Lumitress get?

Lumitress was profitable on paid social from launch, with Meta ads returning 4.2x ad spend and the store converting 3.8% of visitors. Monthly orders grew from about 12 to 210, a 17.5x increase.

The subscription program created a new revenue stream. Recurring subscription revenue grew from 0% to 24% of total revenue during the engagement.

Organic search and social built up alongside paid. Monthly organic sessions rose from 180 to 1,055, the brand went from no top 10 keywords to 38, and combined Instagram and Facebook followers reached 6,400.

The engagement concluded in November 2025, and the brand was handed off to an in-house team. Ongoing operations have since moved to a different team, so the results above reflect the DesignFXPro engagement period. Results vary by brand, product and market.

What can other new DTC brands learn from Lumitress?

The main lesson from Lumitress is that a new brand should build its store, creative and paid channels together so the first ads have something worth selling to. A direct-to-consumer launch can follow the Lumitress approach in this order.

  1. Plan bundles and subscriptions into the store before launch, not after, so order value and repeat revenue start early.
  2. Build a creative library before ads go live. DesignFXPro produced 180+ assets for Lumitress, so the Meta campaigns had images and videos to test.
  3. Start SEO at launch even though it grows slower than ads, so organic traffic is building when ad costs rise.
  4. Measure return on ad spend and orders, not followers, to judge whether the launch is working.
  5. Back product claims with evidence. Lumitress positions its range for scalp concerns, and the FTC's Health Products Compliance Guidance says health-benefit claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence.
  6. Hand off with documented systems so an in-house team can keep the momentum.

A zero-to-one build like this one is not for every brand. A brand that already has a store, an audience and creative can apply the same lessons only to the channels it still lacks.

Our Meta Ads were profitable from launch, our subscription program took off, and the creative library they produced still anchors our marketing today. By the end of the year, Lumitress was a real, growing business, exactly what we set out to build when we partnered with them.”
